The King's Daughter, a loose adaptation of the novel The Moon and the Sun, follows King Louis XIV's quest for immortality by sacrificing a captured mermaid. His illegitimate daughter Marie-Josèphe (Kaya Scodelario) befriends the mermaid and fights to save her, but the film's muddled plot and troubled production history result in a disappointing fairy tale fantasy.
